Olympic organizers canceled triathlon training in the River Seine for the second day on Monday due to pollution caused by weekend downpours in Paris. Despite this, they remain confident that the medal events scheduled for this week will proceed as planned.

Paris 2024 organizers and World Triathlon announced the cancellation, citing insufficient water quality guarantees. This follows a similar cancellation on Sunday for the same reason. The men's individual triathlon is set for Tuesday, with the women's event on Wednesday.

Heavy rainfall on Friday, coinciding with the opening ceremony, led to untreated sewage being discharged into the Seine, affecting water quality. Organizers believe that the expected weather improvements will enhance water conditions before the competitions.

Despite an exceptionally wet spring and early summer, which had resulted in high levels of E.Coli bacteria, recent weather changes bring hope. The Seine's water quality had only begun meeting standards in early July.

In case of rain, Paris 2024 organizers can delay the outdoor swimming events or relocate the marathon swimming to Vaires-sur-Marne. Over the past decade, French authorities have invested €1.4 billion to clean the Seine. On July 17, Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo and Paris 2024 chief organizer Tony Estanguet swam in the river to demonstrate its readiness for the Games.
