Court Grants Kanu Final Opportunity To Mount Defence Or Lose It - 1 month ago

The Nnamdi Kanu trial in Abuja edged closer to a significant turn when Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court warned the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) that he must either open his defence by November 5, 2025, or be deemed to have waived his right to do so.

Kanu has repeatedly declined to proceed with his defence, arguing there is “no valid charge… known to any extant law” against him and refusing to return to detention unless the court discloses the legal basis for his trial.  Meanwhile, the judge reiterated the court’s obligation to afford him a fair opportunity to respond while also cautioning that the window of concession will now close.
