Inspiring story on fatherhood: "My kids inspire me, it's just their passion and love every day. I get to do what I love to do" - Russell Wilson explains why his children remain his biggest motivation
With children ranging from a young toddler to a preteen, Wilson is seeing different stages of childhood unfold at home. That experience appears to have strengthened his desire to encourage them to pursue their own interests.Russell Wilson’s fatherhood message extends beyond the NFL
Russell Wilson's words also carry a broader message about success. His definition of doing well is not simply about winning games.
He wants to show his children that passion, discipline and creativity can exist together.
That lesson is particularly clear in the way he talks about his own childhood. Wilson remembers himself as a kid who dreamed about the future. He now wants his children and other young people to feel comfortable doing the same.
“I was a kid that was dreaming and I want every kid to dream just like I did, just like Ciara did.”
It is a simple idea, but one that carries more weight coming from someone who turned childhood ambition into an NFL career.
Wilson's family also gives him a perspective that extends beyond the football field. His children are growing up around sports, music, fashion and entertainment, but he appears determined to let them develop their own interests rather than simply follow their parents' paths. That philosophy also sits at the heart of 3Brand, the clothing company Wilson launched in 2021. The brand focuses on youth, sports, creativity and motivation, giving him another way to connect his professional career with his interest in inspiring younger generations.
At the Macy’s event, Wilson's three eldest children also walked the runway while showcasing the latest collection.
For the NFL star, watching his children participate in sports and creative activities can spark ideas of his own.
"My kids, they also inspire me as I watch them playing sports," he says. "And I'm like, 'Oh, I got another idea. Let's start working on jerseys, and let's start working on things that can impact them,' " he explained.
That connection between family and creativity has become an important part of Wilson's life outside football. Rather than keeping his professional identity separate from fatherhood, he appears to draw inspiration from both.
Wilson also wants his business to have a purpose beyond selling clothing.
"So, we have a big give back component — and I love them dreaming," he continues. “I was a kid that was dreaming and I want every kid to dream just like I did, just like Ciara did.”
That final point may be the most revealing part of Wilson's approach. He remembers being a child with big ambitions, long before he became an NFL quarterback. Now, he wants the next generation to have the same freedom to imagine what their lives could become.
