The Ogun State Police Command has arrested seven suspects in separate intelligence-led operations targeting armed robbery, "one-chance" robbery, cultism, unlawful possession of firearms and alleged fraud across the state.
The suspects, identified as Bola Salau, Segun Balogun, Emmanuel Friday, Tunde Abioye, Ankpa James, Tunde Ogunseye and Owodunni Seun, were apprehended by operatives from the Ilaro Area Command and the Ibafo, Mowe, Adatan and Ode-Remo divisions.
According to the command's spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the operations led to the recovery of a stolen Toyota Venza, a Toyota Camry allegedly used by a one-chance robbery syndicate, three locally made firearms, 17 stolen mobile phones, an HP EliteBook laptop and N1.1 million linked to an alleged travel scam.
Police said the Toyota Venza was intercepted during a stop-and-search operation along the Oja-Odan/Ilaro Road. A search reportedly uncovered the vehicle's original registration documents hidden beneath the carpet, and investigations later confirmed it had been stolen during a violent robbery in Ede, Osun State, on June 23, 2026.
In a separate operation, detectives arrested two suspected members of a one-chance robbery syndicate at a hotel in Magboro following a complaint from a female victim who alleged she was robbed of a Samsung A16 phone valued at N295,000 and N120,000 in cash. A Toyota Camry believed to have been used during the robbery was also recovered.
The command also arrested Ankpa James over allegations of obtaining N1.276 million from a 21-year-old victim under the pretext of arranging travel to Luxembourg. Police said the suspect admitted involvement during interrogation, while N1.1 million was recovered and returned to the complainant on bond. He is expected to be charged after investigations are concluded.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Adatan Division arrested suspected cult member Tunde Ogunseye during a joint security raid. Police alleged he attempted to attack officers with a locally made pistol before he was subdued. A search of his residence reportedly led to the recovery of another locally fabricated firearm. Investigators also alleged that he is a member of the Eiye Confraternity and is involved in the sale of illicit drugs.
In Ode-Remo, police said they foiled an armed robbery targeting students after suspects fled into a nearby bush upon sighting security operatives. Officers recovered a Dane gun, two spent cartridges, an HP EliteBook laptop, 17 mobile phones, power banks and other personal belongings abandoned at the scene. Owodunni Seun was later arrested nearby after allegedly failing to give a satisfactory explanation for his presence in the area. Police said preliminary findings indicate he is a repeat offender previously convicted of receiving stolen property.
Commending the officers involved, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command's commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention and collaboration with other security agencies. He also urged residents to continue providing credible information to help combat crime, warning that criminal elements would face the full weight of the law.
