Conner voice was heard almost in every corner of the Sterling mansion, positioning guards and making sure that the security was tight. There had not been any attacks on the family in a very long time. In fact the last time the security of the mansion was tightened was when Bartholomew was still a child.

None of the family members could think of anyone who would want to harm them. They didn’t have enemies, Cornelius made sure of it.

Margaret sat on the couch facing the exit with her hands on her chest. She was shaken by the incident. Bartholomew, her son, was by her side stroking her hair.

“Is everyone okay?” Conner asked walking into the main sitting room. All the family members were there, he looked at them all, one at a time to confirm.

Miller was standing by the window when Conner walked in, he turned to him slowly, and nodded. Miller’s wife was sitting beside him with her daughter. Bartholomew and his mother sat on the other end.

“You knew about this, didn’t you?” Margaret asked, ignoring his question. “You knew about Theodore and you were a part of his plan too, right?”

Conner didn’t have to answer, but he knew her question would raise doubt in the hearts of the others.

“I was only following orders,” he confirmed. Margaret was furious.

“Orders? Who are you taking orders from? My father in law has just died but you are already betraying him?’ she asked getting up.

“Mom,” Bartholomew called, trying to stop her from going to meet Conner but she broke free.
