Lagos, the Centre of Excellence, the city with bustling activities. From the hustle to the bustle and then to the never ending traffic, life would never be the same without our street food. Lagos provides a variety of ready-to-eat snacks and meals. What's a better way to survive the hellish traffic in Lagos than grabbing and munching on available street food while wading through the traffic. Are you a newbie or a full blooded Lagosian, here are top street foods you should try.

1. Suya: This tops the list. Suya is the local name for barbecued meat or chicken. This is the Nigerian version of kebab - grilled steaks on sticks seasoned with hot pepper, groundnut powder mixed with spices and fresh onions and cabbages. It is mostly sold by Northerners commonly called 'Mallam' at night. Note that it is sold at night. The suya just hits right at night.

2. Akara: Deep fried spicy bean balls. Commonly sold along the roadside. It is made from ground bean pureé, onions and scotch bonnet. Best eaten with soft Agege white bread. You just stuff the balls in the bread to form the Nigerian version of burger. You can also have it with Ogi (Pap) which can also be gotten at the same place the akara is sold.

3. Ẹwà Agoyin: This street food is gotten from the Togolese. Commonly sold by Togo and Benin Republic migrants. Ẹwà Agoyin is beans cooked and mashed up and served with spicy local sauce made with palm oil and dried peppers. It can be eaten with soft Agege bread, yam or plantain. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't want to try any other beans when you try this particular one
