Gunmen in a coordinated, commando-style assault stormed the Aqua Triton Company facility in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan in Oyo State, over the weekend, resulting in the death of a police officer and the abduction of an Indian expatriate. According to the Oyo State Police Command, the attackers arrived in significant numbers and overwhelmed the security personnel stationed at the site. The officer, deployed to protect the premises, was shot and killed while trying to repel the invasion.

Authorities initially reported conflicting details about the nationality of the kidnapped foreign national, with some outlets citing a Chinese national; subsequent confirmations clarified that the abducted individual is an Indian national, identified as a director of the company.  The gunmen forced the expatriate from the facility after exchanging fire with security operatives, and there are indications that some of the assailants sustained injuries before fleeing the scene. Residents in the Ogunmakin community were left shaken by the brazen daytime attack on the agricultural firm.

In the aftermath of the attack, the Oyo State Police Command has launched a manhunt and tactical operation to locate the kidnappers and secure the safe release of the abducted expatriate, with additional support from anti-kidnapping units. Local authorities condemned the violence and called for enhanced collaboration between private firms, host communities, and security agencies to improve preparedness and response to such threats.
