President Bola Tinubu has dismissed Dr. Nkiruka Maduekwe from her position as Director-General of the National Council on Climate Change (NCCC) without disclosing the reason for her sack. Maduekwe was appointed in June 2024 and served in an interim capacity pending confirmation by the NCCC Supervisory Council. During her tenure, she worked on establishing the council and implementing climate policies.

Tinubu has appointed Omotenioye Majekodunmi as the new Director-General of the NCCC. Majekodunmi brings over 17 years of experience in global and national institutions focused on renewable energy, carbon markets, and climate governance. Prior to this appointment, she served as the Council's Financial Adviser, contributing to shaping Nigeria's climate policies and international engagements.

Under Majekodunmi's leadership, Nigeria's climate action initiatives are expected to accelerate, focusing on innovative climate financing, inclusive environmental governance, and the country's energy transition agenda. The Tinubu administration aims to drive green industrial development and climate action initiatives, promoting sustainable growth and national prosperity. The new leadership is also expected to deepen international partnerships and implement green policies, underscoring the administration's commitment to addressing climate change as a national priority for economic growth, security, and social inclusion.
