Former Kano State governor and National Democratic Congress presidential hopeful, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has commiserated with former Bauchi State deputy governor, Senator Baba Tela, over the death of his two children in a fatal road accident.
The deceased, identified as Mustapha and Ummi, were reportedly travelling along the Bauchi–Azare Road when their vehicle was involved in a crash while returning from Azare. Both siblings died from the impact, throwing the Tela family and their Katagum Emirate community into deep mourning.
In a message shared on his verified X handle, Kwankwaso described the incident as a heartbreaking tragedy that has sent shockwaves beyond the immediate family to the wider Bauchi public. He noted that the loss had cast “a heavy shadow of sorrow over the Katagum Emirate and the entire Bauchi State.”
Kwankwaso extended his “deepest condolences” to Senator Tela, praying that God grants the bereaved family the strength to endure what he called an immeasurable loss. He also expressed solidarity with the Bauchi State Government and residents of the state, saying his thoughts and prayers were with them in this period of grief.
Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, also visited and condoled with the former deputy governor. He prayed for the repose of the souls of Mustapha and Ummi and urged the family to find solace in the will of Allah, describing the deaths as a painful test of faith.
The governor further extended sympathy to other victims who sustained injuries in the crash, wishing them a speedy recovery and calling for safer roads and more caution among motorists to prevent similar tragedies.
Former Senate President Bukola Saraki joined the chorus of condolences, describing the deaths as “painful” and praying for divine mercy on the departed. He asked God to comfort Senator Tela and his family and to grant them the fortitude to bear what he termed an irreparable loss.
The deaths of Mustapha and Ummi have drawn widespread sympathy across political and social circles, underscoring the human cost of recurring road accidents on Nigerian highways and the shared sense of loss that follows such sudden tragedies.
