As a production designer, I see my role as creating the visual world of our story, even within our school environment. My job is to design the classroom, conference room, and other spaces in a way that makes the scenes feel alive and real. Every detail from the way desks are arranged, to the props we use, to the lighting matters. These elements don’t just fill space; they tell the story, show who the characters are, and set the mood for each scene. For me, it’s about making the school environment feel like it belongs to our story.

To bring this to life, I plan to start with research and planning. I’ll study the script closely and imagine how each scene should look and feel. In the classroom, I’ll organize desks, chairs, and learning materials to reflect the energy and personality of the students. For the conference room, I’ll carefully set up the tables, chairs, and props like charts or laptops to create a professional, yet dynamic, space for presentations. I’ll try my best to make sketches, mood boards, and visual references to make sure my ideas are clear to the team. Working closely with the director and classmates will help ensure that everything is practical and aligned with our vision.

I want to strike a balance between creativity and practicality. While I’ll make the spaces visually interesting, I also have to work with what’s available in our school. I’ll repurpose furniture and props, decorate creatively, and adjust layouts so that every setup is both functional and cinematic. Careful planning will help me turn ideas into real, film-ready spaces that support the story without slowing us down.

I know challenges will come, like limited space, time constraints, or lack of certain resources. To handle these, I’ll create flexible designs, make the best use of what’s available, and communicate openly with the team. I’ll also rearrange setups quickly when needed, so nothing disrupts filming. Anticipating these obstacles will help me keep our visuals strong and consistent.

Finally, I’ll make sure to archive my designs carefully. I’ll take photos of every setup, keep sketches and floor plans, and maintain digital mood boards. This will help with continuity during filming, allow us to make changes if needed, and leave a clear record of my work. By combining creativity, teamwork, and careful documentation, I’m confident I can design classrooms and conference rooms that feel authentic, support the story, and bring our school project to life.
