Nigerian singer Abiola Akinbiyi, widely known as Bella Shmurda, has alleged that he was defrauded of $4 million in what he describes as a high-stakes property scam in Lagos.
The artist recounted his ordeal during an emotional Instagram Live session, where he appeared visibly distressed and repeatedly appealed to the public for help. He claimed he had paid $4 million for a house in Lagos, only to later discover that the property was allegedly stolen and did not legally belong to the person who sold it to him.
According to Bella Shmurda, the seller vanished shortly after receiving the payment, leaving him without the property or any clear means of recovering his money. He said the discovery had left him devastated, stressing that the funds represented years of hard work and sacrifice.
“Nigeria, I need your help. I’m not doing okay right now. I spent $4 million of my own hard-earned money, only to find out I bought stolen property,” he said during the livestream, breaking down in tears. “And now the seller has disappeared. Please, help me. Someone step in. I’ve got nothing left. I worked for years for this. I can’t lose $4 million like that.”
The singer explained that he had already contacted his lawyer to initiate a formal investigation into the transaction and explore possible legal remedies. However, he did not reveal the identity of the alleged seller, the exact location of the property, or the intermediaries involved, citing ongoing inquiries.
Details surrounding the deal remain unclear, including whether the transaction passed through any registered real estate agents, legal practitioners, or government verification processes. There has been no independent confirmation of the alleged scam, and law enforcement agencies have yet to publicly comment on the matter.
The incident has sparked intense discussion online, with many fans expressing sympathy and others raising questions about due diligence in high-value property purchases in Lagos, a city where land disputes and title fraud are frequent concerns.
As of now, Bella Shmurda’s claims remain allegations, pending official investigation and verification. The singer maintains that he is determined to pursue the case through legal channels while appealing to the public and relevant authorities to intervene and ensure that those responsible are held accountable.
