Hoodlums attacked the Red Cross office on Gujba, Maiduguri-Potiskum Road in Damaturu, Yobe State, causing extensive damage and setting a vehicle ablaze. Photos and videos from PUNCH Online show a vehicle on fire, along with a damaged Red Cross-branded Land Cruiser and a bus with smashed windows.

The incident took place amid the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests, but its direct connection to the demonstrations is unclear.

Yobe State police spokesman, Dungus Abdulkarim, stated that the attackers, masquerading as peaceful protesters, set fire to public buildings and stole food items and empowerment equipment.

Chima Nwankwo, Coordinator of Communications and Advocacy for the Nigerian Red Cross Society, confirmed the attack, stating, "The office was attacked around 1 pm. Properties, including air conditioners and vehicles, were destroyed and some were stolen. Our cars were burned, but fortunately, there were no casualties."

Nwankwo described the assailants as a "mob" with unclear motivations, noting, "They simply came to vandalize our property." He added that authorities have been notified.
