A small aircraft carrying 12 people crashed early Tuesday morning in the hilly forested terrain of Tsimba Golini in Kwale County, Kenya, while en route from Diani Airstrip toward Maasai Mara National Reserve. The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority confirmed the registration number 5Y-CCA aircraft had 12 people on board and government teams were already at the scene investigating.
Local officials say the victims are believed to be foreign tourists, and the plane reportedly crashed just minutes after departure. Stephen Orinde, the County Commissioner for Kwale, noted there appeared to be no survivors. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
