ADC Releases Timetable For Nationwide Congresses Ahead Of Convention - 4 days ago

The African Democratic Congress has unveiled a detailed timetable for a fresh round of congresses across the country, setting in motion the process of renewing its leadership structures from the grassroots to the national level.

The schedule, approved by the party’s National Working Committee, was announced in a joint statement by the National Organising Secretary, Chinedu Idigo, and the National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, in Abuja.

According to the statement, the exercise will begin with polling unit and ward congresses on April 7. These will be followed by local government area congresses on April 9, while state congresses are slated for April 11. The process will culminate in a national convention fixed for April 14, where the party is expected to ratify new national officers and review its strategic direction.

The ADC leadership described the timetable as a constitutional obligation aimed at strengthening internal democracy and ensuring that party organs at every tier remain representative and accountable.

Members interested in contesting vacant positions at any level have been directed to obtain and submit nomination and expression of interest forms through the party’s official online portal. The statement stressed that only aspirants who complete the prescribed procedures within the stipulated timelines will be cleared to participate.

Idigo and Abdullahi urged party members across all states and the Federal Capital Territory to take part actively in the congresses, noting that broad participation is essential to building a credible and competitive platform ahead of future elections.

The party also appealed for strict adherence to its constitution, guidelines and code of conduct throughout the exercise. It warned that any acts of violence, intimidation or breach of internal rules would be sanctioned, as the congresses are expected to serve as a model of transparent and orderly party administration.

The ADC, which positions itself as a reform-driven alternative in Nigeria’s multiparty landscape, is banking on the congresses and convention to refresh its leadership, reconcile internal interests and project a united front as it prepares for upcoming electoral contests.
