Nottingham Forest have dismissed head coach Sean Dyche after 114 days in charge, making him the club’s third managerial departure of the season.

The decision followed a 0-0 home draw against bottom-placed Wolves. Forest registered 35 shots without scoring, highlighting ongoing inefficiency in attack despite significant investment in offensive players.

Dyche’s tenure covered 17 matches in all competitions. At the time of his departure, Forest were three points above the Premier League relegation zone with 12 league fixtures remaining, as well as a Europa League play-off against Fenerbahce still to come.

Owner Evangelos Marinakis had invested heavily in the squad in the summer and again in January, with a focus on forwards and creative players. However, Forest have scored only 25 goals in 26 league games, a return that appears misaligned with the level and targeting of that expenditure.

Dyche was appointed with the expectation that he would stabilise results and move the team toward mid-table. In a recent three-game sequence against fellow relegation candidates Crystal Palace, Leeds and Wolves, Forest collected only two points. The 3-1 defeat to Leeds, a direct rival in the relegation battle, was regarded internally as particularly damaging.

This dismissal extends a pattern of managerial instability at the City Ground. Dyche succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo and Ange Postecoglou, with Postecoglou lasting just over a month. The frequency of changes has prompted scrutiny of the club’s long-term planning and the owner’s tolerance for short-term underperformance.

In his final media appearance after the Wolves match, Dyche described modern management as volatile and stated that the owner had treated him fairly, indicating awareness of the precarious nature of his position.

Forest’s immediate objective is to appoint a head coach who can improve the productivity of attacking players such as Morgan Gibbs-White, Callum Hudson-Odoi and Elliot Anderson, while reinforcing a vulnerable defence. With a European tie in Turkey and a challenging league schedule ahead, the next appointment will have a direct impact on the club’s survival prospects and on external perceptions of the coherence and stability of the current project.
