Colombian President Gustavo Petro has issued a defiant warning amid escalating rhetoric from U.S. President Donald Trump, saying he would be prepared to defend his country if its sovereignty were threatened. Petro’s remarks followed comments by Trump suggesting aggressive action in the region after the recent seizure of Venezuela’s leader, a move that has unsettled several Latin American governments.
In response, Petro rejected what he described as intimidation and external pressure, insisting Colombia would not be bullied or undermined.
While stressing his preference for peace and diplomacy, the Colombian leader said national dignity and democracy must be protected, calling for unity at home and cooperation among regional allies as tensions with Washington continue to grow.
