The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a strong advisory warning of heavy rainfall and potential flooding across several parts of the country. The alert, which was released early this week, calls for immediate attention—especially from communities in Niger State, Lagos, Delta, Ogun, and other low-lying or flood-prone areas.

According to NiMet, 15 Local Government Areas in Niger State alone have been identified as high-risk zones. With saturated soil conditions, clogged drainage systems, and ongoing rainfall, the chances of flash flooding are rising sharply. Already, several rural and urban communities have reported early signs of waterlogging and property damage.

Floods don’t just soak streets—they displace families, damage livelihoods, and isolate communities. As the warnings intensify, residents are being urged to take preventive actions: clear gutters, avoid flood-prone roads, elevate electronics and valuables, and follow official safety guidelines. Local governments are also being pressed to activate their emergency response plans, especially in high-density settlements.
