The physiotherapy department of the University of Ilorin held its 2nd professional induction ceremony on Wednesday, 3rd December 2025, at the University Multipurpose Hall, marking another milestone since its execution mode in the 2013/2014 academic session.

This is only the second induction since the establishment of the department, with a total number of 63 inductees, and had in attendance principal officers of both the University and College, with the invited guest speaker in person of Prof. A.T.Onigbinde the Dean Faculty of Medical Rehabilitation, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo.

Following the lecture given by the guest speaker was the Oath taking ceremony initiated by prof. Rufia Yusuf Ahmad. A heartfelt moment for both the inductees and every other people in the Hall.
Among the newly inducted professionals is Badmus Rasheed Adebayo, whose dedication and consistent academic performance earned him the spotlight.

Aside from having the highest number of recognition prizes for the physiotherapy graduating set, he also emerged as the overall best graduating student after what he described as a rigorous six-year academic journey, featuring in a total of eight award recognitions.

In an interview with Rasheed where he described his experience as one filled with mixed emotions, days of academic stress, physical exhaustion, and even emotional struggles, but also moments of growth and joy. He recalled, expressing gratitude to God and his parents for their constant support.

He also highlighted one of the most touching moments for him at the ceremony as the oath-taking session, describing the sight of the inductees bowing in unison as both solemn and emotional. He added that the induction ceremony itself was an important step as it marks their official admission into the professional body.

Voices of the inductees

While Rasheed stood out for his multiple recognitions, other inductees also shared the emotional weight and excitement of the day. Zakariyah Qudrah Ayomide, one of the new physiotherapists, described the induction as a moment she had long looked forward to.
Qudrah explained that the journey through the programme came with its own share of academic pressure, long clinical hours and personal sacrifices. However, the induction made it all worthwhile, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her career. “The journey was filled with mixed emotions — days of being academically and physically drained, days of emotional struggle and clinicals which I loved so much even though they were demanding”

When asked how it felt being part of only the second set since the department was founded, Qudrah admitted the feeling was a bit indescribable. “I really can’t pinpoint the whole feeling, but I’m grateful to the Almighty regardless,” she said, noting that the significance of the moment outweighed the number of sets before them.
She concluded offering a simple yet heartfelt piece of advice for students coming behind; “Hold on to God, avoid toxicity, find a coping mechanism, study well, be optimistic and rest. Your brain will thank you.”

At the closing remark speech by the chairman NSP: Dr. Felix Odusanya he said the second induction may have ended, but for the graduates, it marks the beginning of something bigger; real patients, real practice, real impact and that the department will  continue to push for academic excellence and professional recognition, with hopes that in the coming years, more physiotherapists from Unilorin will step out to lead, research, and inspire.
