Dr. Phillip Emeka Ovuoba, wey be di Executive Secretary of di Ebonyi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (EBSPHCDA), na im make di announcement for Abakaliki. E talk say di recruitment na important move to make primary healthcare facilities dey work well. Di aim na to ensure say only qualified people go dey provide health services for di residents.
“We dey propose say di state government go engage 2,000 health workers wey go dey spread across different categories. Many of our health workers dey retire, and we wan make sure say no go dey any gap for manpower while we dey revitalize di facilities. Any moment from now, di state go start to employ more health workers, including medical doctors,” Ovuoba talk.
Dis recruitment drive dey part of larger plan under Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration to modernize di healthcare infrastructure through di Primary Health Care Revitalization Project. Ovuoba talk say Ebonyi model for primary healthcare revitalization don receive national praise for di depth and sustainability. “For Ebonyi, every facility wey we revitalize go turn to modern hospital with quarters, water supply, electricity, and fencing. Besides di recruitment, di government don activate anti-quackery task forces wey dey work with local councils and di Ministry of Health. Dis task forces go identify and shut down illegal health facilities, especially for Ohaukwu and Ezza North Local Government Areas, where unqualified practitioners dey plenty.
Under dis program, newly trained nurses, midwives, and community health workers go dey sent to rural areas to replace unqualified practitioners and improve access to safe and professional healthcare.
