What’s that strange feeling? Is it déjà vu? Twenty-two years after Disney released Freaky Friday, the beloved body-swap classic starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan coming back with a reboot directed by Nisha Ganatra. Freakier Friday arrives in theaters on August 8, and judging by the first trailer, which came out today, it lives up to his name.
The 2003 movie, based on the 1972 novel of the same name written by Mary Rodgers, starred Lohan as Anna Coleman, a girl who ends up magically swapping bodies with her mother Tess Coleman, played by Curtis.
This time around, the characters visit a psychic played by "Saturday Night Live" alum Vanessa Bayer. She tells them that their "lifelines" have "intersected before," something the two women act as if they are clueless about.
Then, as fate would have it, they wake up and they’re no longer in their own bodies, again. Only this time, they’ve swapped not with each other, but with Anna’s daughter and stepdaughter. “My face looks like a Birkin bag that’s been left out into the sun to rot!” Tess-but-not-Tess screams. As you can probably guess, chaos ensues. But don’t worry, some things haven’t changed — Chad Michael Murray will be riding a motorcycle.
And while the sequel may be a new story, there are still nods to the original.
