Imagine spending three years studying Civil Engineering, reaching 300 level, and then making the decision to leave everything behind and start from 100 level in another university.
That is exactly what happened to Ayomikun, a Nigerian graduate whose academic journey has left many people asking one big question: “Why?”
In 2019, Ayomikun was studying Civil Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) when he left the institution at 300 level.
Rather than continue from where he stopped, he made the difficult decision to start his university education afresh at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
That meant going through the admission process again, starting from the beginning, spending additional years in school and watching some of the people he started university with move closer to graduation while he began another journey.
Years later, however, **he has finally graduated from UNILAG as an engineering graduate. **
Sharing his achievement on X, Ayomikun wrote:
«“Left OAU Civil Engineering, 300L in 2019 to start afresh in UNILAG… Took a lot but I’m finally done.”»
His simple statement has generated reactions, with many people congratulating him while others are curious about what could have made someone leave a university at such an advanced level.
One X user, Jeff George, asked:
«“I’m sorry, but why did you do that?”»
Another user suggested that perhaps he had followed the advice of the school, while others simply found the situation surprising.
Interestingly, Ayomikun has not publicly revealed the reason he left OAU, so the real story behind the decision remains unknown.
But one thing is clear: starting over is not always the same as starting from nothing.
Sometimes, the road to a goal changes. Sometimes, you have to take a longer route. And sometimes, finishing late is still better than giving up completely.
After years of restarting, rebuilding and pushing through the challenges, Ayomikun can finally say:
I’m finally done.
NOW LET’S TALK:
If you were already in 300 level and had to choose between continuing at your current university or starting from 100 level again at another university, what would you do?
Would you start all over again or stay and finish where you started? WHY?
