Have you ever wondered why someone can love you and still make you feel like you don't matter?
It sounds contradictory, but it happens more often than we admit.
Someone can love you deeply and still fail to listen to you.
They can love you and still take your presence for granted.
They can love you and still make decisions that constantly leave you feeling unseen.
Because love and value are connected, but they are not exactly the same thing.
Love is an emotion.
Valuing someone is reflected in how you treat them.
You can tell someone, “I love you,” every day. But if you consistently dismiss their feelings, ignore their boundaries or make them feel like an inconvenience, your actions may be communicating something very different.
Being valued feels like being considered.
It is someone remembering the things that matter to you.
It is someone respecting your time.
It is someone listening when you speak instead of simply waiting for their turn to respond.
It is someone noticing when something is wrong.
It is someone making room for you in their life rather than expecting you to constantly squeeze yourself into theirs.
And being valued doesn't mean being treated like the most important person in someone's universe.
Everyone has responsibilities, problems and other relationships.
It simply means knowing that your presence matters.
Sometimes we stay in relationships because we know the person loves us.
But perhaps the better question is:
“Do I feel valued here?”
Because love should not constantly leave you questioning your worth.
You deserve relationships where affection isn't only spoken but demonstrated.
Where apologies are followed by changed behaviour.
Where your happiness matters.
Where your boundaries are respected.
Where you don't have to beg for basic consideration.
And perhaps one of the most beautiful things you can do for another person is to make them feel valued.
Listen to them.
Remember what matters to them.
Show up.
Appreciate them.
Say thank you.
Don't wait until someone is gone before you realize how much space they occupied in your life.
Love is beautiful.
But love expressed through genuine consideration is even more powerful.
Because sometimes the greatest way to say “I love you” is simply to show someone, through your actions:
“You matter to me.”
