MY FINAL YEAR PROJECT EXPERIENCE

My final year project experience was one of a kind as it full of different kind of experiences including challenges. On the 6th of March 2025, which was also my birthday, my project supervisor, Dr Murjanatu M. Abba approved my project topic after writing a synopsis on it and the topic was ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF TIKTOK ADVERTISING ON CONSUMER PURCHASING BEHAVIOUR AMONG FINAL YEAR MASS COMMUNICATION STUDENTS AT AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY,ZARIA. The topic was an interesting one because I am familiar with TikTok as a social media platform which made it easier for me to flow well with the research study. I started my chapter one by sourcing out journals similar to my topic on various academics websites such as ResearchGate, Google Scholar, etc. 

 It all started like a puzzle, I was not sure of what I was doing, I have never written a research project before, I was anxious but also curious, each chapter was submitted with a lot of mistakes but with the hopes of getting corrected and getting better all along. As I progressed into the research study, I learned, unlearned, and relearned a lot in regards to my course of study. My project consisted of five chapters, each chapter been a continuation of the previous one came with different experiences and challenges. Chapter two happened to be the most difficult for me, it consisted of conceptual review, empirical review, and theoretical framework. My insufficient knowledge in regards to mass communication theories made theoretical framework very challenging for me. I received the most corrections in chapter two but with perseverance and hardwork, it got perfected. Chapter three was the easiest for me, but not also without its own challenges and I enjoyed it. 

 In the cause of this project work, there was a point I got stuck, confused and frustrated. I wasn’t sure about my methodology and how to go about it. Changing the research methodology at that point looked like going back to square one and I was not ready for that because of the time factor, I had no choice but to find a way around it and with the help of my supervisor everything played out right.  One of the challenges I faced was limited academic journals that is directly related to my research study. Another one was joggling between Artificial intelligence journals and academic journals. The use of AI was the most difficult challenge for me but all thanks to my smart and ever ready supervisor who was always ready to put me back on track. She pushed me to bring out the best and it was all worth it. 

All praises to Almighty Allah, I finished my project in the early days of October, 2025. It wasn’t easy at first, but with the constant encouragement and guidance from my project supervisor coupled with my dedication and hardwork, everything went smoothly. The conclusion of my research study was that TikTok advertisements has a positive impact on consumer purchasing behaviour, i.e. it influence the consumers’ behaviour to purchase a particular product or services. This research project mean a lot to me because it was my first ever published academia work and also partially fulfilled the requirements for the award of a bachelor of science degree (B.Sc.) in mass communication, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. In conclusion, I came, I saw and I conquered. ALHAMDULLILAH!!!
