FINDING MY VOICE BEHIND THE SCENE

The day we were asked to choose our roles for the upcoming production, I sat quietly, watching everyone decide where they wanted to belong. Some went for camera, others rushed to lighting, makeup, or props. But my eyes kept returning to one place the sound department.

No one pushed me there.
No one selected it for me.
I chose it myself.

There was something about sound that called to me. Even without any equipment in front of us, I could already imagine how sound shapes a story  how it creates emotion, sets the mood, and makes the smallest moments feel alive. It felt like choosing sound meant choosing a deeper connection to the story we are about to build.

As soon as I chose the department, I began to understand the weight and beauty of the role. Sound isn’t just noise; it’s clarity, balance, and emotion. I started imagining myself helping to set up microphones, listening for clean audio, and working with my team to make sure that every sound captured adds meaning to the production.

I told myself that when the time comes, I want to be prepared. I want to approach the role with seriousness, confidence, and willingness to learn. I plan to ask questions, listen to those who know more, and do everything I can to improve. Most of all, I want to be reliable  someone the team can trust.

But as I thought deeper, I also realized that choosing the sound department means facing certain challenges. And in my story, those challenges became part of the journey, not obstacles to fear.

I imagine moments where background noise tries to interfere  loud chatter, passing vehicles, fans humming, or unpredictable sounds from the environment. Instead of panicking, I see myself testing locations early, placing microphones carefully, and thinking ahead to reduce noise before it becomes a problem.

I imagine technical issues too  cables acting up, batteries running out, or equipment misbehaving at the worst time. In those moments, I picture myself staying calm, carrying backups, checking equipment properly, and learning basic troubleshooting to solve problems quickly.

And then there is the challenge of being new. The fear of not knowing enough. The worry that I might make mistakes. But I remind myself that mistakes are part of learning, and I am willing to grow. I see myself watching others, practicing regularly, and gradually becoming more confident with every task I handle.

In my story, these challenges don’t stop me they shape me.
They push me to be better.
They help me become someone who can handle responsibility with maturity and strength.

Choosing the sound department wasn’t a random decision. It was a step toward something I want to understand and grow in. And even though we haven’t started the production yet, my journey has already begun with this choice.

I didn’t just accept a role.
I chose a path  and I’m ready to overcome whatever comes with it.
