FROM CONFUSION TO CONFIDENCE - 2 months ago

When our lecturer shared the roles for the movie production, I was given location scouting. Honestly, it was my first time handling such a role, and at first, I didn’t really understand what I was supposed to do. I felt confused and a bit nervous because I didn’t want to disappoint my lecturer and course mates.

That morning, I woke up thinking about the role. I asked myself questions like: What kind of places does our story need? How do I know if a location is good for filming? So I decided to first understand the story properly. After reading the script, I realized that the locations had to match the mood of the scenes.

I started by walking around my environment, observing different places. I checked areas that were quiet, had good lighting, and looked natural for the story we wanted to tell. At first, it was not easy because some places were too noisy, while others didn’t look good on camera. But I didn’t give up. I kept checking, taking pictures, and imagining how the scenes would look if they were shot there.

As I continued, I became more confident. I began to understand that location scouting is not just about finding any place, but about choosing a place that supports the story and makes filming easier. Eventually, I found locations that fit the scenes and shared them with my coursemates explaining why each place would work.

Through this role, I learned that even though it was my first time and I didn’t know much at the beginning, taking time to think, observe, and try helped me overcome the challenge. Location scouting taught me the importance of preparation and how every role in film production contributes to the success of the final movie.
