NOTES ON MEL ROBBINS' #5SecondsRule - 1 year ago

I've been devouring the pages of 5 Seconds Rule, a Creative Nonfiction by Mel Robbins. I read the first chapter today and below is my review:

CHAPTER ONE: 5 SECONDS TO CHANGE YOUR LIFE

There is some sort of a compelling and liberating force embedded in this book. Because I read this chapter at a go—something a procrastinating lord like me rarely does. There has to be a compelling force close enough to influence that commitment from me.

The first sentence in this chapter wields enormous psychological power— ‘If You're Searching For That Person Who Will Change Your Life, Look In The Mirror.’ While reading, I literally switched off my phone to peer at myself on my phone screen. I wanted to see ‘that one person who will change my life’. And yes, I saw me, and me alone. The psychology which played here was both brutal and enjoyable.

In this chapter, Mel Robbins extensively emphasized the importance and the power of the five seconds rule, citing testimonies of people who had applied the Rule. At a point, I began to perceive a whim of unnecessary exaggeration until I got to the testimony of Laura. When Laura said she had been a jerk to herself, I definitely related to it because I am in a similar position. Always procrastinating. So, if Laura indeed checked all her to-do lists with the Rule, then perhaps I cold escape procrastination with it too.

So I forged on, reading. I only needed 5Seconds of courage to write this note. I pray for consistency.
