Nigeria’s music industry has always been known for solo artists, but things are slowly changing. These days, more young female artists are coming together to form girl groups. Instead of working alone, they sing, perform, and build their identity as a team.
For a long time, big artists like Wizkid, Rema, Davido and the likes have shown that going solo is the main path to success. But now, groups like Ladiva, AfroMix, Zinari, Keha, and Ink are trying something different. Even though they are still new and not widely known, they represent a fresh way of making music together.
One interesting thing about these groups is that most of them are independent. They are not signed to big record labels. Many of them come together, record a song in a small studio, and release it as their first track. They do all this without much money or support.
Social media plays a big role in their growth. Platforms like TikTok help them share their music, dance videos, and performances. This helps them reach people quickly and build fans.
Their style is also unique. While their music is still Afrobeats, they add group choreography and strong visuals, similar to international pop groups. Still, they keep their Nigerian sound and culture.
However, there are challenges. Without proper support, funding, and management, it may be hard for these groups to last long. Even so, this trend shows that Nigeria’s music industry is growing and changing in new ways.
