Dragging Nigerian Men?; I Am SAT! - 1 month ago

You know the statement “ Men are polygamous in nature “.Honestly, if nature truly wrote these words it must have used white chalk on a big black board writing boldly to draw awareness and I know nature would have laughed so loud afterwards.

In the  village of Olisakwe, where gossip and rumors travelled faster than  the speed of light,  I learned this proverb the hard way. Oh my days!.

The sky  was blue, bright and clear, the sun frowned at me like my aged mother, tired of advising me about life’s affairs.  And my heart ? Shattered and broken,  it sat  stubbornly in my chest like a village He-goat refusing to move even when danger  was imminent. Me, Ifu baby , ifunanya beke !  Chai…..I don suffer o.

He came to me with open arms, unending words of love,  sweet enough to melt the soul  like an ice pulled out of the freezer,  His lips round and plum  like ripe apples , His tongue soaked in honey and promises of the future.

“ Ifu baby   I will marry you o”  He said . “You go born four children for me . I go break this your fine waist”.

He spoke of forever , the way the women at omenche market speak of fresh red pepper, abacha and onubu leaves convincing and urgent. Yet behind my back, his love multiplied for many women like the loaves of bread that was shared at the oyoyo crusade. One smile for me , a million side smiles for the whole world . My tears  fell freely and quietly soaking the ground like rain that  didn’t ask for permission from no one .

At night,  the stars watched me closely, one whispering unto another “ who do this girl like this Na”? . The moon leaned closer as I raised my pale face to the sky as if it asked “ My dear one , is this love or punishment  ehnn? “ . I shook my heard in disbelief that Chukwudi had done this Terrible thing to me.

By morning, girls and women were gathered by the stream fetching their water and getting truths from the same deep place. Their gossips moved like an okada on a smooth road and their laughter were words of wisdom wrapped in sacarsm.  One of them  adjusting her umuada wrapper said “ some men will come with their fine face and one heart but it is big enough to rent it out like rooms in a guesthouse”. Others laughed , and shook their head , their lips stretched like a king delivering  his last verdict.

I learned that pain is a very good teacher and teaches you to stop ignoring red flags just because they are dressed in senator, big agbada or fine kaftan. Pain opens your eyes to see beyond the ordinary.   Me, ifunanya I gathered my diginity like spilled grain of beans slowly and carefully refusing to waste any , oh boy! no be small thing o.

And so I sat, not in sadness but in awareness
Not crying o..
Just  watching.

Let people talk, they will always talk about nature . Me that I have also seen men blame CHI our creator for the way they are. I have also seen them blame the wind for the mess they have made with their own hands .

As for me , I will Bloom like the  hisbiscus flower , shine brighter than the early morning sun , grow wiser like the old tortoise and I am done.
