The House of Representatives is set to investigate claims that Dangote Refinery's products are inferior to imported ones. Speaker Rt Hon. Tajudeen Abbas announced this during a visit to the refinery on Saturday. The Dangote Group’s media team later confirmed that the House would form a committee to thoroughly investigate the issue, including testing products from various sources.
Abbas praised the refinery's infrastructure, calling it a significant asset for Nigeria's self-sufficiency in petroleum products and vital for addressing global energy security concerns. He commended the state-of-the-art technology and the refinery's role in transforming Nigeria's petroleum production landscape.
During the tour, diesel samples were procured from filling stations near the refinery. Tests, overseen by the Chairmen of the House Committees on Downstream and Midstream, showed Dangote’s diesel had a sulphur content of 87.6 ppm, while other samples had levels exceeding 1800 ppm and 2000 ppm. These findings counter claims by Farouk Ahmed, CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Authority, who alleged that imported diesel was superior to local products.
Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, emphasized that their refinery’s products meet international standards. He welcomed the House's decision to test the diesel, asserting that it would confirm the superior quality of locally refined products.
