In a dramatic legal showdown, the High Court of Kano State has ruled for the eviction of deposed Emir Aminu Ado Bayero from the mini Palace in Nasarawa area, Kano, and barred him from assuming the title of Emir.
Hon. Justice Amina Adamu Aliyu issued the directives in response to a suit filed by the State's Attorney General, Kano State House of Assembly Speaker, and the State House of Assembly against Aminu Ado Bayero and four other deposed Emirs.
The court ordered the Commissioner of Police, Kano State, to immediately take control of the Emir's palace and expel Aminu Ado Bayero pending further legal proceedings. Additionally, it prohibited Bayero and the other deposed Emirs from presenting themselves as Emirs of various districts in Kano.
Furthermore, the court mandated that the defendants be served through the office of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State, to ensure swift implementation of the court's orders.
The hearing of the motion on notice has been adjourned to June 11, 2024.
This legal saga unfolds amidst political upheaval in Kano State, triggered by the signing of the Kano State Emirate Council Law 2024, which dissolved four new Emirates and reinstated the Kano Emirate to its pre-2019 status. Governor Abba Yusuf swiftly reappointed Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II as the new Emir of Kano, prompting a flurry of legal challenges and tensions.
As the legal battle intensifies, Kano remains on edge, with two Emirs operating from separate palaces amidst heavy security presence, fueling uncertainty and unrest in the commercial hub.
