Alleged Rift Between Olubadan Institution And Oyo Government Sparks Public Reactions - 5 days ago

Ibadan, Oyo State – Concerns have continued to grow over alleged tension between the Olubadan traditional institution and the Oyo State Government led by Governor Seyi Makinde, following recent public discussions and political interpretations surrounding chieftaincy matters in the state.

The speculation comes amid claims circulating in some quarters suggesting a disagreement over developments within the Ibadan traditional system, particularly reforms involving the elevation of high chiefs to the status of Obas.

Although the reports have generated debate on social media and within political circles, there is no official confirmation of any rift or crisis between both institutions.

The Oyo State Government has dismissed allegations of any attempt to undermine or interfere with the Olubadan stool, describing such claims as misleading and capable of causing unnecessary tension.

Similarly, the Olubadan institution, currently led by Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has maintained its position of neutrality, reiterating that the traditional institution is not involved in partisan politics and remains committed to peace and stability in Ibadanland.

Observers note that the controversy appears largely driven by differing interpretations of ongoing chieftaincy reforms, which have continued to attract public attention due to Ibadan’s unique traditional succession system.

As it stands, there is no official breakdown in communication or relationship between the state government and the Olubadan-in-Council, while stakeholders continue to call for caution and responsible reporting on the matter.
