Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has ordered a sweeping shake-up of his inner circle, relieving all Special Advisers, Advisers, Senior Special Assistants and Special Assistants of their duties, alongside the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Principal Private Secretary.
The overhaul, announced in a statement by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mashood Agboola, was described as a minor cabinet reshuffle but affects virtually the entire advisory layer of the administration. The move signals a significant reconfiguration of the governor’s political and administrative team.
According to the statement, the decision is aimed at creating space for a broader range of party members to participate in governance and to inject fresh energy into the administration. By opening up these positions, the governor is seen as seeking to consolidate support within the ruling party while recalibrating his team for the next phase of his agenda.
The directive covers all categories of aides in the advisory cadre, cutting across political and administrative roles that interface closely with the governor. The inclusion of the Deputy Chief of Staff and the Principal Private Secretary underscores the depth of the restructuring and suggests a desire to reset key channels of decision-making and coordination in Government House.
In the statement, AbdulRazaq expressed appreciation to the affected appointees for what he described as their dedicated service to the state. He commended their contributions to the administration’s programmes and policies and wished them success in their future endeavours.
The governor also instructed all those affected to immediately hand over government property in their possession to the Office of the Secretary to the State Government. This handover process is expected to pave the way for the prompt onboarding of new appointees once fresh nominations are concluded.
Political observers in the state view the reshuffle as part of a broader effort by the AbdulRazaq administration to reconstitute its team, strengthen internal cohesion within the ruling party and respond to evolving political and governance demands. The coming appointments will be closely watched for signals about the governor’s priorities and the emerging balance of power within his administration.
