Every day, people head out to earn an honest living, working hard to make ends meet. But there are always some who choose a different path, plotting devious schemes to exploit others and make quick money. Instead of using their intelligence for good, they opt for the easy way out, taking from the innocent simply because they see them as wealthy or successful. They focus on the flashy cars and the comfortable lives, forgetting the years of hard work and dedication that went into achieving those things. It’s absurd to think that waking up one day with a desire to be successful can somehow replace a decade of relentless effort and perseverance.
Just the other day, I witnessed something that brought this into sharp focus. There’s a shoemaker in my estate who, as part of his daily routine, taps on his tools to let people know he’s available to mend their shoes. It’s his way of advertising his services, ensuring that anyone in need of his skills can easily find him. But as he was doing this, someone stepped out of a fancy car and told him he was being a disturbance.
I couldn’t stay silent. I pointed out that if the shoemaker couldn’t advertise his business, how would people know he was there to help? Just because someone drives a luxurious car doesn’t give them the right to belittle another person’s hustle. That shoemaker’s business is his lifeline, his way of putting food on the table.
If we want the world to be a better place, it starts with us. We need to respect each other’s struggles and efforts, no matter how small they may seem. It’s this understanding that can pave the way for real change.
