From Wrong Number To Right Person - 1wk ago

It started with a mistake.

On a rainy evening in Lagos, Tunde was frustrated. His phone battery was dying, and he needed to urgently send a message to his friend about a job opportunity. In a hurry, he typed the number and sent the text:

“Guy, I don finally get interview tomorrow. Pray for me o.”

A few seconds later, a reply came.

“Sorry… I think you have the wrong number. But good luck with your interview tomorrow.”

Tunde stared at the message and laughed.

“Ah sorry. My mistake. But thank you. I need all the prayers I can get.”

The stranger replied again.

“You're welcome. I hope you get the job. My name is Amaka by the way.”

Tunde paused.

“Since you have already prayed for me, let me at least know the prayer warrior’s name properly. I'm Tunde.”

And just like that, a conversation started.

For the next few days, they chatted casually. Nothing serious at first. Just random jokes, complaints about Lagos traffic, and arguments about who made the best jollof rice between Yoruba and Igbo people.

One day Amaka said:

“You know something funny? If someone told me I would be talking to a stranger every day because of a wrong number, I would laugh.”

Tunde replied:

“If someone told me the stranger would be funnier than my actual friends, I would laugh too.”

Their conversations became longer. Phone calls followed.

Tunde eventually told her something that made Amaka laugh for five minutes straight.

“You know the funny thing? I didn't even get that job interview. I went there and the man told me they had already filled the position.”

Amaka laughed and said,

“So technically, the wrong number brought you more success than the job interview.”

Three months later, they decided to finally meet.

Amaka was nervous. What if he looked nothing like his pictures? What if he was boring in person?

Tunde was nervous too.

When Amaka arrived at the restaurant, she immediately recognized him. Tunde stood up, smiling awkwardly.

Then the funniest thing happened.

They both said “You’re taller than I expected” at the exact same time.

They burst into laughter so loudly that the waiter stared at them.

That first meeting lasted six hours.

They talked about childhood memories, family drama, dreams, fears, and everything in between.

When Amaka got home that night, her younger sister asked,

“So… how was the date?”

Amaka smiled and said something she didn’t fully understand yet.

“I feel like I’ve known him for years.”

Their relationship wasn’t perfect.

At one point, they almost stopped talking because of a stupid argument about something small.

Amaka said:

“Maybe this whole thing started by mistake anyway.”

Tunde went quiet for a moment and replied softly:

“Maybe the number was wrong… but meeting you wasn’t.”

That sentence stayed with her.

Two years later, on a Sunday afternoon, Tunde invited Amaka out again.

They were sitting quietly when Tunde suddenly said:

“You remember the message I sent you the first day?”

Amaka laughed.

“The job interview message?”

Tunde nodded.

“Well… I didn’t get that job. But I got something better.”

Before she could ask what he meant, he brought out a small ring.

People around them started clapping before she even answered.

Amaka was crying and laughing at the same time.

"All this because of a wrong number?" she said.

Tunde smiled.

“No… because God knew I was dialing the right person.”

Today, whenever people ask how they met, Amaka always laughs before answering:

“My husband texted me by mistake.”

And Tunde usually adds:

“Best mistake of my life.
