Tinubu Approves 27 Strategic Road Projects Worth N3.9tn Across 15 States - 1wk ago

President Bola Tinubu has cleared 27 major road projects valued at more than N3.9 trillion, signalling one of the most ambitious federal interventions in Nigeria’s highway network in recent years.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, announced the approvals after a meeting of the Federal Executive Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, explaining that the projects cut across 15 states and are designed to ease travel, boost trade corridors and open up neglected routes.

The largest single approval is the re-award of the 409‑kilometre dual carriageway in Niger State under the tax credit scheme to the Dangote Group at a cost of N1.8 trillion, a project expected to strengthen a key North–South transport artery.

In the North Central and South West, the council approved N276 billion for the dualisation of the Ilorin–Ogbomoso Road and N265 billion for reconstruction of the Iseyin–Eruwa–Agbesi Road linking Oyo and Kwara states. Another N217 billion will go to dualising the old alignment from Ijaye through Federal Government College to Ilorin Road, with a spur to Akinmorin, while N116 billion was earmarked for the 21‑kilometre Abakaliki–Afikpo Road in Ebonyi State.

Further approvals include N110 billion for the Ogbomoso–Oko–Illupu Road in Oyo and Osun; N104 billion for Sections One and Two of the Ilorin–Omorin–Ebe–Kabba–Obajana Road in Kwara and Kogi; N98 billion for the 30‑kilometre Idi‑Araba–Ayede–Olodo Road in Oyo; and N92 billion for Phase Two of the Baban‑Lamba–Sharan Road in Plateau.

Two projects, each costing N86 billion, will reconstruct the Enugu–Abakaliki Road with a flyover and the Adikpo–Ajayi–Tese–Akpa–Otukpo corridor spanning Benue and Cross River. Other contracts cover Jimeta–Mayo Belwa in Adamawa (N83 billion), multiple Oyo State links including Igbeti and Igbeti–Soro–Kishi, the Dabban–Makina Road in Niger, and the Tungo–Karamti Road with five bridges connecting Adamawa and Taraba.

Umahi added that the council approved the full business case for the operation and maintenance concession of the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway and ordered immediate reconstruction of failed sections on the Ibadan axis using concrete pavement.

He also disclosed that the first 118‑kilometre section of the Abuja–Kaduna–Kano Highway, valued at N137 billion, has been completed, describing it as a signal that the administration intends to pair new approvals with visible on‑ground delivery.
