Afrobeats star Davido has come under fire after mistakenly dragging Nigerian gospel singer Adejumobi Oluwatosin, popularly known as Tosin Bee, into his ongoing child custody battle with his estranged partner, Sophia Momodu.
The controversy erupted after a tense court session at the Lagos State High Court in Yaba, where Davido is seeking joint custody or unrestricted access to his daughter, Imade Adeleke. The singer later took to social media to vent his anger at a lawyer identified as Ebelechukwu Enedah, who represents Momodu, accusing her of referencing his late son during proceedings.
In a furious Instagram post, Davido described the lawyer as “wicked” and “the worst lawyer ever,” alleging she had crossed a line by bringing up his deceased child. His outburst quickly spread online, fuelling debate over courtroom conduct and the emotional strain of the custody case.
Amid that anger, Davido reposted a message from gospel artist Tosin Bee to his Instagram story, apparently assuming the singer was related to the lawyer. In the now-deleted post, Davido mocked Tosin Bee’s music and suggested he was the lawyer’s son, prompting a wave of abuse toward the gospel singer from some of the star’s fans.
Tosin Bee swiftly moved to clear the air, posting a calm but pointed response. He stated that he had no connection to the lawyer and revealed that his mother died eight years ago. Describing the episode as a “case of mistaken identity,” he offered sympathy to Davido, adding that his prayers were with the singer despite the misunderstanding.
The clarification shifted the tone of the online conversation. Many social media users condemned the harassment of Tosin Bee and demanded a public apology, stressing that even if he had been related to the lawyer, he should not have been targeted for events in court.
Others noted that the incident had inadvertently boosted Tosin Bee’s visibility, with some commenters framing it as an unexpected “announcement” of his ministry and music.
The mix-up unfolded as Davido announced he was withdrawing his custody suit, insisting he had only ever sought joint custody, not full control. He lamented that “nobody won, nobody lost but Imade,” and said he decided to step back after feeling his late son had been used as a “last card” in the legal tussle.
Despite the legal friction, Davido has maintained that he remains actively involved in Imade’s life, pointing to his role in her education and recent public appearances with her as signs of ongoing co-parenting, even amid public drama.
