Have you ever been asked a question unexpectedly, and suddenly, your brain decides to forget everything you have ever known?
That was exactly what happened to me one afternoon.
I was sitting quietly, minding my business, when someone suddenly called my name.
"Yes, you," they said. “What do you think about this?”
I froze.
For some reason, the question sounded like the most difficult question anyone had ever asked me. I knew the answer. In fact, I had probably discussed the same topic several times before. But at that moment, with everyone's eyes on me, my mind went completely blank.
I stared at the person asking the question, hoping they would somehow understand that my brain had temporarily gone on vacation.
A few seconds passed.
And those few seconds felt like five minutes.
I eventually managed to say something, but it wasn't as brilliant as I had imagined it would be. As soon as I finished speaking, I kept replaying the moment in my head, wondering why I didn't say this or that instead.
But later, I realized something.
Being put on the spot is not always about giving the perfect answer. Sometimes, it is simply about learning to stay calm when you don't have time to prepare.
You are allowed to pause. You are allowed to think. You are allowed to say, “I'm not sure, but here's what I think.”
Not every unexpected question requires a perfect response.
Sometimes, you just need to breathe, trust yourself, and speak.
