President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Didi Esther Walson-Jack as the new Head of the Civil Service (HoS) of the Federation, effective August 14. Presidential spokesperson Ajuri Ngelale announced this on Wednesday, noting that Walson-Jack will succeed Folasade Yemi-Esan, who retires on August 13.

Walson-Jack, appointed as a Federal Permanent Secretary in 2017, has served in various ministries. President Tinubu thanked the outgoing HoS for her service and encouraged Walson-Jack to perform her duties with innovation, integrity, and adherence to civil service regulations.

Walson-Jack holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Lagos and was called to the bar in 1987. Before joining the federal civil service, she was the solicitor-general of Bayelsa and the permanent secretary of the state's Ministry of Justice. Her appointment as a permanent secretary came in 2017 under former President Muhammadu Buhari, and she has since served in the offices of the Head of the Civil Service, as well as in the ministries of Niger Delta Affairs, Power, Water Resources and Sanitation, and Education.

In 2023, she was honored with the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). Walson-Jack attended the Federal Government Girls’ College in Benin City, Edo State, and the Federal Government College in Ilorin, Kwara State. She is married to Nimi Walson-Jack, a former general secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA).
