In a shocking incident, 21-year-old Slovakian swimmer Tamara Potocká collapsed on the pool deck after competing in the women's 200m individual medley qualifying heat at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Friday morning.

Potocká, who was making her Olympic debut, was seen struggling as she exited the water and was immediately surrounded by medical staff. She was administered first aid, placed on a stretcher, and taken away for further medical attention while wearing an oxygen mask.

According to medical personnel, Potocká was conscious at the time of the incident. The cause of her collapse is currently unknown, and it is unclear if she received CPR.

Fellow competitor Lea Polonsky of Israel expressed concern, stating that while swimmers are aware of the risks involved in their sport, incidents like this are always a shock.

Potocká, a resident of Bratislava, Slovakia, finished seventh in her heat with a time of 2 minutes, 14.20 seconds, unfortunately eliminating her from the semi-final round."
