Title: Behind the Camera, Behind the Care
It was my first major film production as a 100-level student, and everything felt new, loud, and slightly overwhelming. While others were excited about cameras, acting, and directing, my role was different. I was the welfare person—the one responsible for the comfort, feeding, movement, and basic well-being of both cast and crew.
At first, the role sounded easy. “Just food and logistics,” I thought. I quickly learned that welfare is the backbone of any production.
The first challenge hit on Day One. People arrived earlier than expected, and hunger doesn’t wait for schedules. I had to manage feeding for a large number of people with limited resources and time. Some wanted special meals, some complained the food came late, and others didn’t understand that welfare had a budget limit. I learned fast that patience is part of the job.
Transportation was another challenge. Coordinating movement to and from locations wasn’t as simple as it looked on paper. Delays, confusion, and miscommunication caused tension, and I often found myself running between departments, calming people down and finding quick solutions.
There was also the issue of health and safety. Minor injuries, stress, and exhaustion showed up as the days went on. I had to stay alert, make sure first-aid materials were available, and ensure no one was pushed beyond their limits. It made me realize that film production is not just about creativity—it’s physical and emotional work.
Despite the stress, the role taught me leadership. I learned how to communicate clearly, manage pressure, and think on my feet. I learned that welfare is not just about money or food—it’s about care, empathy, and responsibility.
By the end of the production, I was tired but proud. I may not have been behind the camera, but I played a key role in keeping the production running. As a 100-level student, the experience opened my eyes to the reality of filmmaking and helped me grow not just academically, but personally.
Behind every successful film is a welfare person making sure everyone is okay—and this time, that person was me.
