From Engineering To Journalism: The Rise Of Tage Kene-Okafor In Tech Media - 4 days ago

If you’re looking for someone else who’s really making waves in the Nigeria tech space, you’ve gotta check out Tage Kene-Okafor. He’s basically everywhere right now because he’s the Africa reporter for TechCrunch, which is like the biggest tech site in the world. People always talk about him when a new startup gets a huge check because he’s usually the first one to break the news about big money moving into Lagos.

What’s interesting about Tage is that he actually tried to start his own companies first—like in fintech and education—but he says they failed, so he went into journalism instead. He’s got a degree in Electronic Engineering from UNN, so he actually understands the "techy" side of things, but he writes it in a way that doesn't feel like a boring school book.

Before he got the big TechCrunch job, he was one of the early guys at Techpoint Africa, so he’s been around for a long time. He was even nominated for that same "Tech Journalist of the Year" award at AOT Lagos recently (the one Frank Eleanya won), which shows he’s definitely in that top tier.

Tage’s style is all about the "money moves." If a startup is raising millions of dollars or if a big US company is trying to buy a Nigerian business, Tage is probably already writing about it. He covers the whole of Africa, but since he’s based in Lagos, he gives a lot of love to the local scene. If you want to know which startups are actually becoming "the next big thing" or what investors are thinking about Nigeria right now, you should definitely be following his stuff on TechCrunch.
