Viral Memory

Synopsis:

Having recovered after having COVID-19, a man starts to receive brilliant flashbacks of the memories that do not belong to him. As the visions increase in intensity, he finds out that he is being mysteriously tied to other survivors where he can peek into a part of their lives. This weird gift leads to him having found out that survival has united them all together in a deeper way that none of them can figure out.

Theme:

Unfelt connection can be formed with a stranger under the same pain and survival is not a personal triumph but a human one.

Characters:

David — in early 30s, observant, introspective, emotionally shaken after illness but quietly resilient

Nurse — calm, reassuring, practical caregiver

Woman in Park — silent survivor, gentle presence

Passersby — ordinary people, unknowingly connected through survival

FADE IN

BLACK SCREEN

Distant sounds overlap in darkness, laughter, crying, traffic, a heartbeat.

CUT TO

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM – NIGHT

Machines beep steadily.

DAVID (30s) a pale and breathing man lies in bed. Oxygen tube. Sweat on his forehead. Clenched lids show that he is struggling with something within his mind.

The monitor spikes.

FLASH CUT

A LITTLE GIRL is running over a beach giggling.

FLASH CUT

An OLD MAN blows out birthday candles.

FLASH CUT

Rain hits a windshield. Someone sobs quietly.

BACK TO SCENE

David’s eyes snap open.

He gasps.

INT. HOSPITAL ROOM – MORNING

Sunlight pours over the bed. David sits upright, shaken.

A NURSE checks his vitals.

NURSE

You’re lucky. The majority of people don’t rise up that fast from such situation.

David nods slowly, distracted.

DAVID

I had dreams.

NURSE

Nightmares?

DAVID

No… memories.

INT. DAVID’S APARTMENT – NIGHT

Dim lighting. Quiet.

David sits on his couch, staring at nothing.

Suddenly—

FLASH

He’s on a bicycle speeding downhill. Wind rushing. Laughter that isn’t his.

BACK TO ROOM

David grips his head.

DAVID

That’s not mine.

His breathing quickens.

MONTAGE — VISIONS

A woman in a wedding dress crying with happiness and joy.

A boy hiding under a table during an argument.

A soldier hugging his mother.

A teenager in shock at examination results

Each memory lasts only seconds.

Each feels real.

INT. BATHROOM – NIGHT

David pours water on his face. Looks into the mirror.

Another FLASH

The reflection of a stranger looks back at him rather than his.

He staggers backward.

INT. BEDROOM – LATE NIGHT

David sits on the edge of his bed, shaken but thinking.

A realization slowly forms.

DAVID

They’re not dreams… they’re people.

Beat.

DAVID

They survived.

He stands. Hope mixes with fear.

EXT. CITY STREET – DAY

Masked pedestrians pass.

David is keen on watching them.

As each person walks by—

FLASH

A memory.

A laugh.

A fear.

A loss.

A miracle.

David’s eyes widen. Overwhelmed.

He realizes he isn’t seeing strangers.

He’s seeing survivors.

EXT. PARK BENCH – SUNSET

David sits quietly.

A woman sits beside him.

They don’t speak.

FLASH

Hospital ceiling. Tears. Relief. She survived.

BACK

David looks at her gently.

She senses it. Looks back.

The two have a mute agreement.

No words.

Just knowing.

CLOSE UP — DAVID

For the first time… he smiles.

DAVID

When I was sick… I thought I was alone.

Beat.

DAVID

Turns out… I returned with fragments of all the rest of them who had survived.

WIDE SHOT — PARK

People scattered across benches, paths, grass.

David observes them as constellations. Connected.

DAVID

Perhaps the virus didn’t only steal something away

Soft breath.

DAVID

Perhaps it was leaving something behind
