US tech giant Microsoft announced on that it is taking "mitigation actions" following service disruptions affecting its users. "Our services are still seeing continuous improvements while we continue to take mitigation actions," Microsoft said in a post on the social media platform X.

The company issued a notice titled "Service Degradation," stating that users "may be unable to access various Microsoft 365 apps and services." This announcement coincided with a significant IT outage in Australia, impacting the national broadcaster, the country's largest international airport, and a major telecommunications company.

Australia’s National Cyber Security Coordinator attributed the "large-scale technical outage" to an issue with a "third-party software platform." As part of its response, Microsoft noted that access to some services was restricted, with certain users able to use Microsoft 365 only in read-only mode.

"We remain committed in treating this event with the highest priority and urgency while we continue to address the lingering impact for the remaining Microsoft 365 apps that are in a degraded state," Microsoft stated.
