The prayers of my parents deepened as the months passed by & my little brother headed for his 1st birthday. Anxiety, fear, uncertainty & a flood of emotions ran through my parents as they could barely wait to finish celebrating my brother's birthday before they ran to the hospital for his genotype test.

Thankfully the first prayer was answered by God a few days later when the doctor smiled & told my parents this child of yours is free from sickle cell. My parents screamed in joy & gratitude to God. There & then the decision was endorsed as mum had family planning done immediately to put an end permanently to child bearing.

My parents were left with an only daughter who the made a promise to dedicate their lives to taking care of. This child of theirs changed the course of their lives & that of the entire family. The journey of sickle cell warriors & their care givers is a journey of a thousand miles. There are so many twists, turns, potholes, speed bombs, bridge's & narrow lanes.
