“She's not here. Her room is empty.”

It felt like the walls caved in on him. Frederick could not believe his ears. Lily left the house on her own will.

" Are you sure..." he drifted. She couldn't have gotten kidnapped. The Adams' mansion was secure like an impregnable fortress. Plus, Lily never left the house. So, what happened?

" Check the CCTV. I need every footage from dawn till now," Frederick thundered.

His secretary leaped to his feet like a startled beast and went off.

Frederick paced. His mind several feet ahead of his legs.

Lily could never leave him. He knew just how much she loved him, so it worried him.

The billionaire, Frederick Adams loved a model before he hit the gold mine. Shanty knew about his inheritance previously , so she stayed but when it turned out his father had more debt than his assets, the pageant queen chose the nearest exit.

Her departure scrapped the flesh out of his heart. First being  abandoned by his mother, and then, his first love, Frederick was done with women. So, when he learnt of his father's plan to wed him and Lily, he merely consented to honour the loving memory of his father.

Frederick never tried to make Lily happy. Yet she was content. She never complained.

So, he didn't picture her ever leaving.

"Sir...you should see this." His secretary hurried into the room, sweaty.

Frederick grabbed the laptop and the screen lit up with Lily crying against the kitchen sink before going up to pack around noon.

The secretary zoomed in on the number on Lily's phone screen. Frederick's throat went dry. He swallowed with great difficulty, dazed.

“I don't know how she managed to reach her...”

Frederick was still speechless. His former flame was behind his wife's departure from home.

The thought of it buzzed in his ears. He couldn't  imagine what she must have said to Lily.

For a while, he was indecisive. He couldn't deny he still loved her, but there was Lily. His wife.

Frederick sprang to his feet. This time, determined that his happiness wouldn't be ruined again.
