In the quiet corners of our homes, there are items tucked away in closets, different places where we won't necessarily see them- objects once treasured or acquired from close people with a purpose, now neglected in forgotten corners. These things ranges from old clothes, old toys, pictures, magazines, old kitchen utensils and although they may have long lost their utility and value, yet parting away with them feels unbearable. The difficulty in letting go of unused possessions usually stems from the emotional significance attached to them. An old toy may be a reminder of good memories from childhood, an old frame, something that makes a person reminisce about the things that happened while taking the picture, the person who took the picture, the funny comment a person said that prompted the heartwarming smile captured by the camera.

Psychologists suggests that our attachment to objects can be tied to our identities and experiences. Possessions can act as tangible symbols of our past achievements, relationships, stages of life. These objects evoke nostalgia and sentimental value, making it challenging to consider them as mere clutter so the thought of doing away with them feels like losing a part of oneself or erasing an important part of one's history.

To make decluttering easier, it is important to understand the emotional hold of unused possessions as it helps make decisions on what to keep and what to release. By acknowledging the significance of our belongings while still recognizing the need for a balanced, organized living space, we can navigate the hoarders dilemma with greater ease and peace of mind.
