The Roommate I Never Expected To Like - 14 hours ago

The first time I saw my new roommate, I knew we weren't going to get along.

She was loud.

I was quiet.

She loved playing music while getting ready in the morning. I preferred peace and silence.

She was always surrounded by friends, while I enjoyed spending time alone with a book or my phone.

In my mind, I had already decided that the semester was going to be stressful.

The first few weeks didn't help.

She complained that I switched off the lights too early.

I complained that she talked too much.

She thought I was too serious.

I thought she was too carefree.

We weren't rude to each other, but we definitely weren't friends.

Then one evening, everything changed.

I came back from class looking exhausted after a long day of lectures and an unexpected test. Without saying a word, she looked at me and asked, “Have you eaten today?”

I shook my head.

She pushed a plate of food towards me and said, “I cooked extra. Eat before you start reading again.”

It wasn't a big gesture.

But it meant a lot.

From that day, things slowly became different.

We started talking more.

She helped me loosen up whenever I was overwhelmed with schoolwork.

I reminded her about assignment deadlines she would have forgotten.

She taught me not to take life too seriously.

I taught her the importance of planning ahead.

Before long, people on our floor couldn't believe we were the same roommates who barely spoke to each other at the beginning of the semester.

We became each other's alarm clock before exams.

We shared food when one of us was broke.

We defended each other during hostel disagreements.

And somehow, the person I thought would make hostel life difficult became one of the best parts of my university experience.

Looking back, I realize that first impressions don't always tell the whole story.

Sometimes, the people who are completely different from us end up teaching us the most.

University isn't just about earning a degree.

It's also about meeting people who change your perspective in ways you never expected.

And sometimes, that person is sleeping on the next bed.

Did you and your roommate become friends or enemies? We'd love to hear your story in the comments!
