“Love in Every Word” — Or, How I Yelled at My Screen for 90 Minutes Straight

Let me just say this: I went into Love in Every Word expecting a cute, romantic Nollywood love story. You know, a little drama, a little kissing, maybe a fight over who ate the last jollof rice. But what I got? Emotional chaos. High-stakes eye contact. And enough romantic tension to power NEPA for a week.

Let’s talk about the characters. Uzor Arukwe’s character walks into every scene like he’s about to deliver a TED Talk on heartbreak. Sir, can you just say what’s on your chest? No? You’ll just stare dramatically into the distance and sigh like a Shakespearean ghost? Okay then.

And Bambam? She absolutely killed it. Her character was giving “I’ve been hurt before, but I’m still fine sha.” You know the type. Perfect hair. Dresses like her heartbreaks come with soundtrack music. But beneath that? Emotional lava. She said more with one raised eyebrow than I’ve managed to say in three years of WhatsApp messages.

Now, I must warn you: this film is dangerous if you’re single. At one point, I paused and asked myself why no one was looking at me the way Arukwe was looking at Bambam. Then I remembered I haven’t washed my hair in four days and maybe it’s for the best.

The real star of the film, though? The long, meaningful pauses. I’m convinced the editor got paid by the second of silence. These characters will start a sentence like, “I just wanted to say…” and then STARE at each other for so long I had time to check my email, stretch, boil water for tea, and still come back before the next line dropped.

But all jokes aside, I really enjoyed it. Beneath all the intense silences and “I’m emotionally unavailable but look how good my beard is” energy, it’s a story about people trying to love better—trying to find the right words in moments where words fail.

So if you’re looking for a romantic movie with beautiful people, deep feels, and a lot of brooding in slow motion, Love in Every Word delivers. Just make sure you have snacks, tissues, and maybe a friend to text, “Did he just WALK AWAY instead of telling her how he feels?!”

Final verdict: 10/10 would emotionally spiral again.
