The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially extended the deadline for completing admissions into public universities from October 31st to November 17th. This extension was announced on the 2nd of November via a statement from JAMB's spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin. It applies specifically to public (federal and state) universities. Deadlines for private universities and other institutions remain unchanged (November 30th for private universities and December 31st for others).
Key Reasons for the Extension
1. Appeal from the Association of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (AVCNU): Universities requested more time due to disruptions, including a court order that temporarily halted the 2025/2026 admission process. This injunction was lifted only on October 28, 2025, leaving institutions with insufficient time to finalize processes.
2. Introduction of New Accredited Courses: On the 29th of October, the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved 229 new academic programmes across 37 universities. Admissions into these newly accredited courses are just beginning to be scheduled. This requires additional time to ensure eligible candidates can apply and be considered fairly. This also aligns with the federal government's Renewed Hope Agenda to expand access to tertiary education.
JAMB emphasizes that this extension promotes "fairness and inclusivity" while maintaining a transparent process through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS). The board commended universities for their efforts but stressed that November 17, 2025, is the final deadline and must be strictly followed to avoid further delays in the academic calendar.
