The pain of Silence and the power of Quietness
Often times has the word 'silence' been interchanged with the word 'quiet' due to their synonymous resemblance in definition. But even though the dictionary gives them as synonyms.
I've always seen loop holes and slight difference between the two words. With 'silence' having the edge and being superior of what both words represent.
And to state my point going forward I'll be using human illustration to reveal my the not so obvious contrast between “silent and quiet”
Quiet people have been mistaken to be silent, when quiet people are really just people who communicate subtly. They value peace, and try as much as they can to avoid unnecessary loud noises and dramas,
they operate in low frequencies helping them reserve their energy.
while they may seem quiet on the outside, a lot of dialogue is going on in their heads.
Now silent people? They're totally mute, not silent by choice, they don't love it there.
They're silent because their voice was stolen, because they're forced to be, an external force is making them stay silent, it could be abusive parents, abusive spouse, past traumas, Sexual assault, bullying and other toxic reasons you could think of.
In the heart of a silent person resides, anger, hatred, resentment, malice and pain from being misunderstood anytime they try to speak. So they suffer in silence while acting up on the outside.
Can quiet people also be silenced?
Yes quiet people can also be silenced, but it doesn't affect them as much as it affects extroverted social butterflies who need their voice to survive. Which may lead to severe depression and suicidal thoughts.
Quiet people on the other hand have developed coping mechanism that helps them thrive in silence. Using Facial expressions, body language and non verbal communications.
That being said, silence is not good a place for any human. And by recognizing difference between quietness and silence we can build more supportive environments where everyone feels heard. Being safe spaces for those silenced, while appreciating the quiet ones who enrich our lives with their presence.
As Quietness is a lifestyle, and Silence is just a phase.
